As an EMANZ member you will have a good knowledge of energy efficiency and the effective management of energy however you may not be aware of some of the resources which are available to your organisation or your clients. The object of this toolbox is to provide details of some resources with links to documents, tools or third party sites. You may be aware of, and use, these resources already but having them consolidated here should make it easier for EMANZ members to find and use them. The focus is on information relating to commercial buildings and industrial sites however other energy consuming sectors such as transport are touched on. If you are aware of other useful resources please let EMANZ know and we may add them to this site. The toolbox structure has been split into the following sections: Best Practice GuidesThis section focuses on Best Practice Guides (BPG) published by various organisations. Details and links are given and some extracts used as examples of what is available.Case StudiesOutlines some case studies on how a range of industries and organisations have benefited from the use of energy management principles to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs. Energy Management Plans and StrategiesThis section outlines means of developing a typical energy plan and links to sample plans and other guidelines. Funding & TrainingThere is still some government support for audits and other energy related projects. Some of those schemes presently available are detailed in this section. LightingThere are rapid advances in the energy efficiency of lighting technologies and it is difficult to keep up-to-date. Here are some basic resources which will help keep you informed. Measurement & VerificationIf energy efficiency is to realise its full potential, building and industrial owners and operators, service companies, consultants, contractors and financiers must adopt common technical and financial methods for quantifying savings of energy or water efficiency business transactions. Monitoring and TargetingPerhaps the most important component of a successful energy management programme is the ability to measure what energy is used and to benchmark use against a normalised standard. Here are some resources. NZ Building CodeSince 2009 there is now a requirement for the HVAC systems in commercial buildings to be energy efficient. Check details on this and other energy efficiency requirements for all buildings in this section. Regulations & LegislationThere are some standards which relate to audits and the energy efficiency of equipment and there is now an international energy management standard. Renewable EnergyThere is increasing interest in the use of woody biomass such as wood pellets or chips to produce heat and in other forms of electricity generation from renewable sources. This section provides background and details of resources available. Software to measure and manage energyThere are now many propriety software packages which make the recording and analysis of energy consumption easier for busy energy managers. Here are details of some of those available in New Zealand. |
