The AS/NZ Standard sets out minimum requirements for commissioning and conducting energy audits which identify opportunities for cost effective investments to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the use of energy.
This Standard covers three levels of audit, as follows:
- Level 1
- Level 2.
- Level 3.
Energy Audit Standard under review.
E2WG endorsed the Implementation Paper on the findings of the first phase of the audit standard review to the Energy Efficiency Working Group (E2WG), which you have previously commented on and confirmed funding for the remainder of this financial year to move to the next stage. As per previous drafts, it proposes updating the standard based on four parts - a generic standard, with specific parts providing guidance for industry, commercial buildings and transport. These will link to specific process/technology standards where appropriate. As there were several models put forward to revise the audit levels, the Paper does not recommend a specific model, but recommends that further industry consultation on this issue is required. Appendix E includes the various models proposed. I have previously circulated the other appendices noted in the Paper, but if you want them sent again, please let me know. Standards Australia have indicated the work is likely to take between 12-18 months to complete the four parts, commencing in the New Year. E2WG recommended that the generic standard and specific guidance for industry be done first, with guidance for commercial buildings and transport scheduled for the second part of the project. This reflects the Standard's existing focus on commercial buildings and the need to prioritise work based on funding stretching over two financial years. A Technical Committee is being set up by Standards Australia to undertake the work. Many of the existing Steering Group members have already been approached to be part of that group. When the next phase commences, Standards Australia will undertake a closer review of the Technical Committee to see if additional technical expertise is required.
